About Valley Healthcare System Kingwood

Valley Healthcare Systems in Kingwood, West Virginia is a behavioral healthcare provider that assists individuals with addictions, intellectual disabilities and mental illnesses. The main programs provided at this location include the Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion Program, outpatient treatment, and medication assisted treatment.

Kingwood is a small town just 30 minutes outside of Morgantown which is the home of West Virginia University. In between treatment sessions, you can visit the university art museum or check out the Morgantown Farmers Market.

The outpatient service offered at Valley Healthcare Systems is a short-term program that lasts six to eight weeks. Most clients will typically receive about nine hours a week of treatment. You’ll gain knowledge on preventing relapse and developing coping skills. Through cognitive behavioral therapy, counselors will guide you in understanding how your thinking can influence your choice to use substances and teach you how to manage your thoughts.

The Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) Program is one of the standout services at Valley Healthcare Systems. When encountering someone who's committed a low-level non-violent offense such as drug possession, an officer can decide to refer them to the program rather than incarceration if the individual consents to participation. A LEAD Coordinator will assess the individual and coordinate treatment services, along with reporting any non-compliance to the referring officer.

Medication-assisted treatment is available for anyone struggling with cravings or withdrawal symptoms. The medications available at the facility include Vivitrol, naltrexone, Acamprosate and Suboxone. During the course of this treatment, you’ll also receive group therapy, medical appointments and follow-up care.

In addition to all of the services available at the Kingwood location, Preston County residents have access to day treatment at the Preston County Clubhouse. It’s located in Terra Alta at the Hopemont Hospital Administration building. With this service, you’ll participate in groups and activities that give you the opportunity to socialize and develop daily living skills with the goal of being able to gain independence.
