About UAB Center for Beacon Recovery

The University of Alabama Center for Beacon Recovery is a drug and alcohol rehab facility located in Birmingham, Alabama. They treat adults and teenagers for substance use disorder (SUD) on an outpatient basis.

They charge a small monthly fee for all of their services. They accept Medicaid and they take self-pay on a sliding scale basis. No one is denied treatment for an inability to pay.

Treatment Programs

Most clients start recovery in their intensive outpatient program (IOP). You will have a minimum of 9 hours of group and individual therapy per week.

What I like most about this program are all the group sessions it offers. They have a group that teaches healthy coping and another for financial fitness. They also have groups for trauma and grief.

They have a standard outpatient program called PRIME Promoting Recovery through Individualized Motivational Enhancement. This is a two to three month program offering one or two 50-minute private sessions a week.

The Mission Program

If you are unhoused and have both a mental health condition and SUD, you can participate in the Mission program. It is a one-day treatment program that helps you find resources for treatment and housing. It also provides access to the medical clinic and no-cost prescription medication.
