About Twin Oaks Community Residence
The Twin Oaks Community Residence is one of many programs offered by the nonprofit Behavioral Health Services North. Twin Oaks is a residential program specifically for men recovering from substance use disorder. Time frames for the program vary but usually last six months. This is a residence with 20 beds. The low number of participants at any time means you'll get more individualized attention from staff.
Behavioral Health Services North works with both Medicaid and Medicare, as well as other forms of insurance. They also offer financial aid. If you're worried that you can't afford services, you're encouraged to apply.
Around the Clock Care in a Secure Setting
Residential programs have a lot of variables, but a common thread you'll find across most programs is a heightened level of security. To keep you and everyone else safe, these programs closely monitor and restrict when you can leave the campus and where you can go with things like curfews.
But to ensure you have everything you need, Twin Oaks has staff present 24 hours a day, seven days a week to address your concerns and meet your needs. It's comforting to know that no matter what you experience, help is never far away.
Emphasizing the Importance of Employment in Recovery
The Twin Oaks program puts a heavy focus on securing employment as part of the program. I like this inclusion in a residential program because having a job gives you greater stability post treatment, so why not get a headstart?
You'll also work on a variety of skills during treatment. Many of these will make you more appealing to potential employers and help you in your everyday life in general.
Aiding Recovery Through Structure
The major difference between residential and outpatient care, and one of its biggest advantages, is its added structure. With an outpatient program, you attend regular sessions and you're left to your own devices outside of that. You might consider just heading across the street to Lombard Park to unwind and stretch your legs.
Twin Oaks and other residential programs provide highly structured daily schedules for residents, so your days will be busy between treatment sessions and other activities. The added structure is a plus because it helps you develop new skills. It also keeps you busy in different ways. The different activities you participate in show you there are plenty of ways to maintain sobriety during and after treatment.
