About Towson University Counseling Center
Towson University Counseling Center in Towson, Maryland, offers private and confidential counseling services to students currently enrolled at Towson University. Students can access same-day 30-minute appointments as well as a range of different support services like workshops, groups, and peer support, including specialized substance abuse counseling.
The center prides itself on its flexible, goal-oriented and culturally sensitive services. They tailor their services per students’ specific needs. Sessions are available in person or remotely, based on what students prefer. This is ideal for anyone who can’t make regular in-person sessions.
Students who seek help here will begin by having an initial meeting with a counselor so they can gauge what issues need to be addressed. From here, the center implements its flexible care model to adapt and customize its treatment approach to provide on-demand support. This means that after their initial consultation, students will leave with a customized care plan for their unique wellness and mental health goals. The plan itself may involve connecting the individual to other campus resources or other services, while following up with them throughout the process.
For those in need of specialized substance services for either themselves or someone they care about, programs are available to Towson University students. Services are confidential and, for the most part, free. Substance treatment counselors are on hand to provide addiction-specific therapy sessions.
Students can also access the Alcohol, Tobacco, & Other Drug Abuse Prevention Center (ATOD). This center offers treatment, peer education, multi-level prevention programming and recovery services. Supportive resources are also available here. The ATOD center also sponsors the university’s Tigers in Recovery collegiate recovery program. This program helps students balance their college experience with their recovery experience.
