Thresholds provides mental health and addiction treatment in Chicago, Illinois. They also provide employment services and additional support to help clients break out of poverty. This address is their main office and they can connect you to all their services in the city.

They serve all clients regardless of whether they can pay, and there’s a sliding scale of fees. They may also accept Medicaid coverage.

Specialized Services for Veterans and the Deaf

I really like that outside of the traditional intensive outpatient program (IOP) for addiction treatment, they also have specialized programs for specific needs. The Veterans Project recognizes that one third of veterans struggle with substance use and a quarter with PTSD.

The veteran's program combines homeless outreach, supported employment, housing services, substance use and mental health treatment, peer support, and trauma based therapies. This combination addresses the unique stressors that veterans face and helps them get back on their feet.

I also noticed that Thresholds has mental health services specifically for the deaf. They have psychiatric and medical care, life skills, social activities, housing services, and outreach. The program has videophones and instant messaging along with other technology to make communication easy.

Employment Services and Peer Support

One thing central for long term recovery is having support after treatment ends. Thresholds works to provide that with a wide range of long term services.

They help you learn job skills and connect you with housing programs as well. Beyond these services, they also provide people with lived experience in substance use to support you long term.

These peers understand what you’re going through and can connect you with fun substance free activities and social services. Having this kind of support during and after treatment can help you maintain sobriety long term.
