About The Retreat
The Retreat in Wayzata, Minnesota, provides men's and women's substance abuse recovery support. They have gendered residential programs as well as an evening intensive outpatient program. The retreat helps adults recover from addiction using the 12 steps.
The men's program uses collaboration in a group setting to provide healing. The goal of this program is to help men begin a new sober chapter of their lives. There's also a spiritual component that helps people find something bigger than themselves that can help them find true and lasting recovery.
The women's center focuses on trauma healing, physical health, family problems and co-occurring disorders. Through communal living, residents will also find social support and community. Group discussions will make up the core component of treatment.
The day begins early at the retreat at 7:15 a.m. There's meditation before breakfast, which is followed by Big Book study programs lectures, community and AA meetings as well as some free time. Lunch and dinner will also be served and the evening ends with a 10th step group session. They hope that having structure and support throughout the day will aid the recovery process and hope you reintegrate back into the community. Mentors and sponsors will help with this process.
It's important to understand that the retreat is not a medical or clinical service provider. If you have a co-occurring mental health disorder you'll need to seek treatment for that from a qualified professional.
For people who are unable to live on site or attend programming during the day, there is an evening program. This is 18 weeks long and gives you a retreat experience on your own time. You'll get the essentials of recovery through the 12 steps and apply the practices to begin recovery.
I like that they also offer a family support program. You don't need to have a family member at the retreat to enroll. You’ll get hope and tools for dealing with someone else's addiction. Plus you'll gain strategies for how to respond in ways that are helpful and caring. This program lets you understand addiction as well as family dynamics. This program is open to anyone.
