About The Harbor
Situated in a quiet area of Fairhope, Alabama, The Harbor Mental Health Clinic provides outpatient care to individuals with mental health and substance use disorders. It's part of the Infirmary Health network. Assistance with verifying benefit coverage is available. As part of the largest nonprofit, nongovernmental system in Alabama, the facility is situated within the larger medical campus of Thomas Hospital and is handicap accessible.
Caring, Compassionate Environment
Serving adults 18 and older, their multidisciplinary approach involves medical, psychiatric, and therapeutic care. Their mission is LIFE, which stands for Leadership, Integrity, Family, and Excellent Service. I like that they place an emphasis on building skills and resources unique to each individual client in a caring, compassionate environment.
Substance abuse treatment takes place on weekdays for six hours each day. The program lasts for up to four weeks and may include extended 12 Step enrollment. This is more intensive than general mental health counseling on its own.
Integrated Primary Care Treatment
With a focus on empowering patients to manage mental health and substance use challenges for long term recovery, they coordinate treatment with primary care providers and community resources. They offer individual and group counseling, providing day programs so clients can continue to meet their personal obligations while living at home. I found that they also deliver comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and education workshops.
Outdoor Spaces of Fairhope
Fairhope is a biking town, with trails that meander along the coast and through several historic neighborhoods. It also offers a variety of outdoor spaces that may serve to compliment your outpatient therapy. Weeks Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve provides family friendly hiking trails and an educational visitor’s center with exhibits on local wildlife. There’s also a wheelchair accessible boardwalk that passes through the marshes to a scenic observation point.
The Mobile-Tensaw Delta spans more than 260,000 acres, offering opportunities for walking, biking, and horseback riding as well as canoeing and paddleboating through cypress swamps, marshes and bays.
The Fairhope Municipal Pier features a waterfront park complete with a rose garden, duck pond, beach, and fishing and picnic areas. It’s home to the Beach Park Tree Trail with its collection of nearly 500 species of trees.
