About The Empowerment Center

The Empowerment Center is a state licensed halfway house in Reno, Nevada. They have a 38 bed facility available to at risk women who have low income and are experiencing drug or alcohol addiction. Most of their clients are homeless or have been incarcerated. This Center is also a level 2.1 outpatient adult service provider. They take on University of Nevada interns to help them get the hands-on, real world experience they need to train for their future careers.

Residents participate in an intensive outpatient program. Each client has an individual treatment plan that includes learning about the addiction cycle, managing stress and learning coping skills. You'll also get trauma informed care that includes individual and group therapy. Residents are required to work with a sponsor, attend recovery meetings, maintain employment, meet curfew and perform they're assigned chores.

You'll work with a certified alcohol and drug counselor who may use a variety of therapies that will work best for you. For example, two of the most common ones are cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing. During your individual sessions. you will learn to understand your addiction, take an honest look at yourself and the effect that it's had on you. You'll also learn to identify your triggers and how to deal with them in a healthy way. Only then will you be able to move forward and heal.

Their transitional living program helps people who are involved with the justice system, have experienced trauma or violence, have mental or substance abuse issues or are dealing with poverty, homelessness and unemployment. This sober living facility provides wraparound services to help women learn how to provide for themselves independently. You’ll live in a group environment and have a structured program that teaches you healthy behavioral habits.
