About The Counseling Center

The Counseling Center of Columbiana County provides dual diagnosis outpatient treatment to those with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders in Salem, Ohio. Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) accredited, they accept military insurance, Medicare, Medicaid and other state financed health plans, as well as other state or government funding. The facility offers ample parking and has separate waiting rooms for children and adults.

MAT and the Recovery Model

Based on a recovery model that empowers clients to take ownership of their recovery journey, they offer individual, group, family and couples counseling. Treatment focuses on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and behavior modification, with comprehensive assessments and medication management available. In addition to outpatient services, they provide medication assisted treatment (MAT) with medications such as naltrexone. I like that they also offer experiential therapy as part of their program.

Treatment for a Range of Patient Populations

Therapy is designed for adults, adolescents and transitional age young adults, with specific programs to meet the unique needs of each age group. Those with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are welcome here, as are persons with serious mental illness (SMI). They also treat children and adolescents with serious behavior disturbances (SED). I think it’s important to note that counseling and resources are provided to inmates of the Columbiana County Jail as well, with the aim of meeting their needs while they are incarcerated and connecting them with services upon release.
