About The Council on Recovery

The Council on Recovery provides elite outpatient treatment for alcoholism, substance misuse and co-occurring mental health disorders in Houston, Texas. The remarkable thing about outpatient care is its flexibility. You can receive treatment at your convenience while maintaining your normal daily routine. The Council’s outpatient treatment and recovery services are available through their Center for Recovering Families. They help not just individuals and families but the entire community as well. Besides outpatient therapy, this center offers telehealth recovery support as well as counseling for adolescents, teens and children. Their programs are CARF accredited and LegitScript certified, which signifies commitment to quality care. Many past clients have also acknowledged this dedication to attentive and individualized treatment.

Two outpatient treatment options are available to satisfy the different needs of clients. The Healing Choice is a self-funded intensive outpatient treatment program that lasts eight weeks. In contrast, the Discovering Choices is a state funded option for individuals without financial resources to access treatment. It includes specialized treatment tracks for adults, pregnant and parenting women and individuals with co-occurring conditions. Treatment is tailored to your unique needs and may involve six weeks of outpatient therapy encompassing individual therapy, psychoeducation and process groups in the first phase. The second phase is an eight week recovery initiative that helps you transition to the community.

That said, both Healing and Discovery Choices employ similar outpatient recovery techniques. They integrate clinically proven practices with 12 Step models and holistic activities. So besides the group therapy and individual counseling you should expect to attend community focused 12 Step meetings like AA and NA. This is in addition to yoga, healing circles and mind-body skills. Emphasis is on developing solid coping and relapse prevention skills that foster lasting sobriety. The programs emphasize family involvement through counseling and group therapy. Their family counseling/group therapy aims to rebuild trust, improve communication and mend relationships between you and your family. They also offer addiction education covering relapse prevention techniques. You’ll have access to recovery materials, presentations and workshops.

Their telehealth services offer an even more convenient means of receiving addiction therapy. The specific service will depend on your unique needs and range from assessment to individual, group and family therapy. This program also provides case management, recovery coaching support and referrals or navigation. Their children and adolescents services are geared toward breaking the family cycle of substance misuse and helping the whole family recover. They offer individual/family counseling, school and community education and parenting consultations/coaching. Brown bag seminars, specialized vaping services and alternative peer group referrals are also provided. The center also provides ongoing therapeutic aftercare groups and alumni activities to ensure lasting recovery beyond treatment.
