About Staten Island Mental Health

The Staten Island Mental Health Society (SIMHS) is a part of Richmond University Medical Center’s behavioral health services division located in Staten Island, New York. The facility provides a wide range of mental health solutions, including substance use disorder treatment on an outpatient basis.

A Merging of Services

In 2019, SIMHS merged with RUMC, creating a robust program that serves children, adults, and families in the greater Staten Island community. This means that the community now has access to a larger network of skilled board certified psychologists, therapists, counselors, and physicians to manage their behavioral health needs.

Adolescent and Adult Substance Abuse Program

The Adolescent and Adult Substance Abuse Program provides care to adolescents, teenagers, and adults with substance use disorders (SUD). I appreciate that this also includes counseling services for loved ones impacted by another’s addiction. Their services include drug and alcohol assessments, multi-family and peer group counselling, family and individual therapy, and psychiatric consults.

Satellite Outpatient Care

Although not offered at the St. Marks Place location, the St. George outpatient programs are designed for SUD treatment which includes medication management and crisis intervention. This also includes medication assisted treatment to help safely detox and achieve sobriety. I appreciate that services are catered to each person’s needs. Similarly, other facilities within the RUMC network provide SUD treatment services to adolescents and teens.

I liked that RUMC also has a mobile crisis outreach service which provides responsive care to manage non-emergent crisis situations including addiction. RUMC accepts most major insurances, Medicare, and Medicaid.
