About Starlight Community Services

San Jose's SBHS features the In Home Outreach Team program, a way for you to get adults vital care in their homes or elsewhere in the community. The role of IHOT is to come to you with services so you don't have to visit urgent care or another emergency setting.

IHOT has three focuses. The first is peer mentoring, where you'll be put in touch with someone who coaches and provides general outreach support. The second is case management, which oversees the services you're receiving and connects you with more as needed. The last is family advocates, providing direct support and education to families.

Similar programs are available for minors. REACH provides education and treatment for youth and their families. TEAMMATES is a wraparound program specifically for families designed to support the stability of children in the family unit.

I think with these programs and others, SBHS shows just how dedicated they are to supporting individuals in recovery.

Drawing Out Your Strengths

The foundation of SBH's youth addiction care uses a strength based approach. This sort of counseling works with you to identify your personal strengths and use them to fuel motivation towards your recovery goals. It's used as part of traditional talk therapy.

What I like about this approach is how empowering it is. Some people wrongly see counseling or therapy as something that's done "to" them. I think this diminishes the role we play in our own recovery and risks making it sound like a passive process. With this approach, you can see firsthand just how much of your recovery comes from you--with help from your care team, of course!

You’re OK in San Jose

Finding the North Center is easy. It's only a short distance north of Gran Paradiso Park and southwest of Brooktree Park. If you visit the clinic you'll find plenty of things to do nearby.
