About Southwestern Pennsylvania Human Services, Inc.

The Southwestern Pennsylvania Human Services office in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, serves the residents of Washington County with mental health care, substance use treatment, assistance for the homeless and senior programs. They have been serving Pennsylvania citizens for over 55 years.

I found the organization of the services interesting. Southwestern Pennsylvania Human Services (SPHS) oversees the operations of eight affiliate organizations and helps them plan and implement programs to meet citizens’ needs.

Substance Use Treatment in Washington County

Substance use treatment is available through two Human Services organizations, The CARE Center and Southwest Behavioral Care, Inc. These organizations provide outpatient treatment, case management and referrals to additional services as needed.

I noticed that the CARE Center also has DUI services, which can help residents manage their legal requirements after a DUI conviction and reduce the chances of reoffending. DUI services often include court assessments, education, and monitoring to ensure you follow through on the program.

Additional Support Through Service Partners

Connect is a partner program that can provide supportive housing, which can be very important when it comes to maintaining sobriety and laying a foundation for long term recovery. Short term housing options help you learn to live productively without substance use while receiving additional support. These services may include recovery support group meetings and additional counseling.

Diversified Human Services (DHS) has specific programs for seniors, which can be helpful if you’re older and in recovery. They have multiple Senior Community Centers that provide fun activities, life skills classes and a hot lunch. DHS may also be able to provide in-home services for seniors to help with personal care and certain chores.
