About South Central Behavioral Services – Unity House

South Central Behavioral Services has an outpatient support center called Unity House serving the community of Kearney, Nebraska. More specifically, Unity House provides daytime dual diagnosis mental health and substance abuse treatment. They also provide community support which includes case management and recovery services.

For admission into these programs, you must be at least 19 years old and meet the criteria for a severe and persistent mental illness or a substance use disorder. One unique part of Unity House’s program is that they provide transportation for individuals who need it to come to treatment.

Benefit From Social Support in a Structured Setting

The Day Rehab program is offered daily from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm. Occasionally they will hold weekend social events. While enrolled in this treatment program, you’ll participate in group and individual projects, community outings, classes, and special events. Typically sessions start with group discussions, then various activities, and wrap up for the day. You’ll be encouraged to attend at least three days per week up to five days maximum. Licensed clinicians use a range of approaches including motivational interviewing, whole health action management, and trauma-informed care.

I noticed that in addition to treatment, there are some neat places around town that might be of interest to take your mind off recovery for a while. Check out Yanney Heritage Park or the Museum of Nebraska Art. If you like nature, Kearney's Hike-Bike Trail System is nearby as is Cottonmill Park.

Case Management And Support For Recovery

For the community support component of rehab at Unity House, the staff will help you with case management and have flexible hours to assist with your individual needs. They’ll help you follow through on your daily activities, provide skill-building, and connect you to any other resources you might need to sustain recovery. I saw that weekly outpatient groups are focused on topics like Stages of Change, relapse prevention, Seeking Safety, and dialectical behavior therapy.
