About Senior Hope Counseling

Senior Hope Counseling was a non profit outpatient facility that provided substance use disorder treatment in Albany, New York. It was created specifically to help elderly individuals recover from addiction. The first appointment would be an evaluation to determine a client’s biopsychosocial needs to determine the appropriate level of care.

Multiple Group Treatment Options

The facility offered various group treatment options designed for the unique needs of their clients. I liked that they provided gender specific groups for men and women, which could allow individuals to feel more comfortable discussing their experiences with addiction. Another group I noticed that was offered was the trauma survivors’ group.

This group was designed to help individuals who were adversely affected by trauma. Counselors would help clients learn to improve their coping skills and enhance their resiliency.

Individuals would also gain a better understanding of the relationship between traumatic experiences and alcohol or drug use. Additional group sessions that were offered at the facility included the co occurring disorders group and the anger management group.

Case Management Services to Support Recovery

Senior Hope Counseling understood that clients who came to them for addiction treatment likely had additional issues that they needed assistance with. The facility had a team of professionals to help their senior clients get linked to community services and resources that could assist with financial management, housing and other issues.

In between sessions, senior clients had many opportunities to spend time enjoying art and nature activities in Albany. For art, they could visit the New York State Museum, and for nature, they could take a walk at Albany Pine Bush Preserve.
