About SCO Family of Services Madonna Heights

SCO Family of Services’s Madonna Heights provides a conducive environment that teaches, strengthens and encourages young and adult women to heal from trauma. They offer trauma informed gender responsive care tailored to the needs of adolescent girls aged 12 to 17.

If you’re a young woman struggling with mental issues, substance use disorders (SUD) and self directed violence then this residential program can help you heal. Those affected by peer conflicts, family discords, sexual exploitation and runaway behavior can also benefit from this program.

The facility conveniently sits on a beautiful 56-acre campus on Burrs Lane in Dix Hills, New York. The area is part of a tranquil suburban community on Long Island. Its peaceful setting makes it suitable for focused recovery and healing. Their spacious campus boasts green spaces that provide opportunities for outdoor activities, relaxation and therapeutic engagement.

Dix Hills is also known for its accessibility. It’s close to major transportation routes making it convenient for families to visit or participate in treatment plans. The surrounding community has a reputation for safety and supportiveness as well.

The program involves 24-hour residential care to address your unique physical, emotional and social needs. Various therapeutic services are also provided to support you and your family. The goal is to help you build confidence, strengthen family bonds and support your transition back home or to a home within the community.

Residents attend the Madonna Heights School. This is a fully accredited New York State Regents junior/senior high school located on the same campus. The school features small class sizes and provides an active learning environment. You’ll have the opportunity to participate fully while receiving individual attention as you learn, explore and develop leadership potential.

What I find fascinating about this facility is that they offer different residency placements to suit the unique needs of various residents. Some people will benefit from the short-term residential placement of 30 to 90 days, while the longer, more traditional residential placement may be suitable for others. They even offer a diagnostic placement that focuses on assessment and evaluation to identify needs and the appropriate treatment plans.

Referrals are accepted from Long Island School Districts, NYC Board of Education and Nassau and Suffolk Department of Social Services among others. This great program has won multiple awards reflecting its broad recognition for excellence in delivering personalized care that helps young women regain control of their lives. Some of the notable ones are the prestigious Social Impact Award at the 12th Annual Long Island Imagine Awards and the Sanctuary Institute Resiliency Award.
