About SAIL – South Shore Association for Independent Living
The South Shore Association for Independent Living (SAIL) provides outpatient treatment and housing services in Baldwin, New York, for those with serious mental illnesses.
They have an Assertive Community Treatment program (ACT) that can also address co-occurring substance use disorder and an OASAS Supported housing program for those with primary substance use disorder. SAIL accepts Medicaid and has a private pay fee scale for those without Medicaid.
ACT Treatment Program for Co-Occurring Disorders
The ACT Treatment program is for those with a primary mental health condition who need more than traditional treatment can provide. You have access to an ACT team that includes multiple professionals, such as social workers, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and peer support specialists.
The team delivers mental health treatment and skills teaching in your normal daily environment, which means you don’t have to go to a clinic or hospital for care. I also noticed they help with court ordered care, substance use disorder treatment and other related needs.
OASAS MRT Supported Housing in Baldwin
SAIL coordinates with Mercy Behavioral Health Services to deliver services to those with a primary substance use disorder diagnosis, along with co-occuring mental health concerns.
SAIL provides housing and life skills training while Mercy supplies outpatient substance use and mental health treatment. I like that the supported housing program focuses on helping clients live independently with a lower level of support. The organization is located an hour away from New York City and less than an hour from Coney Island.
