About Resolution Ranch Academy

Resolution Ranch sits on 500 acres in Cameron, Texas. The residential ranch program is open to boys ages 13 to 17 who are experiencing difficulties in their behaviors or are at risk, such as those engaging in substance abuse.

The ranch combines experiential therapy with therapeutic and academic support to help these teens build character and develop into responsible individuals.

Engaging With Troubled Teens

I think direct, hands-on experiences are an effective way to engage teens with the therapy and recovery process, and that’s what this program does.

Over the course of their stay (typically six to 10 months), each resident participates in several physical activities ranging from ranch duties to recreation. Clients can play sports, explore the arts and even participate in outdoor adventures with their peers.

Besides giving them a feeling of control, these activities build bonds and create opportunities for clients to put the concepts they learn in addiction treatment into action.

I’m intrigued by this program’s approach to therapy. Rather than framing it as overcoming a problem or learning to cope with symptoms, they describe what they do as promoting personal growth.
