About Railbelt Mental Health-Addctn

Railbelt Mental Health & Addictions (RMHA) is a Community Behavioral Health Center providing outpatient care across Interior Alaska's Northern Railbelt region.

The organization treats substance use disorders, serious mental illness and co-occurring concerns through counseling.

RMHA is committed to bringing accessible, individualized behavioral health support to geographically dispersed and remote Alaska communities.

Integrated Substance Use and Co-Occurring Care

I am impressed that the center prioritizes outpatient treatment for substance use disorders alongside co-occurring mental health needs like PTSD, depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder.

Intake begins with a clinician assessment, generally lasting one and a half to three hours, to build an individualized treatment plan and determine the right level of care.

Sessions may includes cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, contingency management, relapse-prevention counseling and trauma-related counseling.

When a client needs a higher level of care than RMHA can provide locally the team refers out while continuing support until that care is accessible.

Whole-Person Support Services

Beyond counseling I found that RMHA offers psychiatric services, crisis support, case management, peer support and tobacco cessation counseling.

The organization serves diverse populations, including adolescents, veterans and military families, LGBTQ+ clients, pregnant and postpartum women and older adults.

Medication for mental disorders and alcohol use disorder is also available.
