About Bridgeway Behavioral Health

Preferred Family Healthcare in Troy, Missouri, offers adolescent outpatient substance use treatment. The location is affiliated with one of its divisions, Bridgeway Behavioral Health. They’re accredited by CARF. It's in the center of town, right off of Avenue of the Saints.

Outpatient Programs and Treatment

Based on the intensity of treatment your needs, a therapist will assign the youth to an intensive outpatient (IOP) or a general outpatient program. I like that you youth or you will receive private individualized counseling, group counseling with the youth’s peers, and family counseling with you.

Youths are educated about drugs and alcohol and how addiction and recovery works. They are taught how to prevent relapse by controlling urges and triggers. Youth are introduced to support groups such as AA and NA and receive training on life skills.

School Based Team of Concern

The center offers a program called Team of Concern (TOC) which is School Based Prevention. TOC targets youth who are at risk for substance use issues. Exposure to drugs or alcohol in the home or by family is the greatest risk.

Teens being raised by a single parent or at a lower family status as far as income and occupation are at risk. Genetic addiction and mental health disorders place the youth at risk.
Grief or trauma can lead youth to self medicate. Youth who engage in risky behaviors such as smoking, fighting, and stealing are at risk for substance use.

School Referral for Treatment

I saw that TOC Awareness Trainings are provided to teachers and staff. They’re taught how to identify a youth at risk, how to refer a youth for treatment, education regarding substance use and abuse, and how to share resources with and educate parents.

Our youth often display different behaviors and personalities at school than what we see at home. A referral by the school should be appreciated and not cause you to feel offended or defensive. Earlier intervention may prevent a life of addiction for your child.

Art and music are mediums that connect with our feelings, making them a great recovery tool during addiction treatment. Studies show that combining art/music and drug rehab can have a greater therapeutic impact than drug rehab alone, as you’re able to access parts of your brain and body that you may not have access to during traditional talk therapy. Benefits of art/music therapy include lowering stress and anxiety, promoting healthy neurochemicals, and providing stress relief.
