About PMS Cuba Health Center
Presbyterian Medical Services serves New Mexico residents by offering health, education and social services to clients of all backgrounds and ages. Their Cuba Health Center in Cuba, New Mexico provides dentistry, medical and behavioral health care in person and via telehealth. They are accredited by the Joint Commission.
Some of the services you can access here include one on onel, family, couples and group therapy for substance use or mental health disorders. They provide medication-assisted treatment and crisis interventions. I appreciate that they also provide traditional healing and community support services.
Psychosocial Rehabilitation in Cuba, New Mexico
One of Cuba Health Center’s most striking features is their psychosocial rehabilitation program (PSR). It helps folks gain the life skills they need to live independently in the community. The goal of PSR is to help people build skills to adapt to mental health or substance use issues in their lives. Class topics range based on the needs of participants. They include topics like stress management, managing money, self-care coping skills and much more.
Classes are taught by licensed clinicians or by people in recovery. I like that participants will be able to hear from folks who are living successfully with mental illness and/or substance use in their past.
PSR is available to any adults who have a severe mental illness or a diagnosis of a co-occurring severe mental illness and substance use disorder.
Totah Behavioral Health Authority
One of their programs that caught my eye was Totah Behavioral Health Authority. This program provides culturally appropriate behavioral healthcare and related services.
They refer to clients as ‘relatives’ which to me shows their compassionate and caring framework.
Folks can recover from addiction through traditional Native American healing practices blended with clinical treatment.
You can expect to participate in talking circles, protection prayers, drumming sessions, tobacco ceremonies, as well as individual and group counseling.
