About The Edward D. Miller Center
Just a few minutes outside of the center of New York City in Ronkonkoma, New York, is The Phoenix House’s Edward D. Miller Center. It’s on the shores of Lake Ronkonkoma with plenty of surrounding parklands.
The center provides Long Island residents with three residential programs that offer addiction treatment services. Depending on your needs, you have access to the women’s program, the men’s residential program, and specialized residential programming for veterans. Each one will address the unique needs of these populations, such as issues related to rites of passage, motherhood, and manhood.
Some clients who are beginning their recovery journey may start with receiving medication assisted treatment (MAT). This approach utilizes medication and counseling to assist you in your recovery. The medications administered at the facility include naltrexone and buprenorphine. The center partners with local methadone clinics to maintain continuity of care for individuals already on methadone.
You’ll meet with an individual counselor once a week to go over your treatment plan. These plans are created in partnership with you to ensure your goals and needs are being met. In group therapy, counselors will use evidence based treatment methods to guide discussions and give participants the tools they need to overcome addiction. Courses include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and relapse prevention.
All clients will have access to healthy dining, with freshly made meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They offer a rotating menu of vegetarian and meat options. A workout facility is available to allow you to exercise and stretch, which can reduce your stress and improve your mental well being. Case management services are also available at the Edward D. Miller Center to guide you to the resources you need to support your recovery.
