About Oxford House Willowbrook
Oxford House’s Willowbrook facility is located in a quiet neighborhood in Columbia, Missouri. It’s in the suburbs near Allen-Oakland Park.
This is a sober living/transitional living home for adult men in addiction recovery that follows the unique Oxford House model, wherein the residents are responsible for the decisions in running the house. In addition to its democratically run nature, I noticed this location offers its residents a high degree of freedom in their day to day lives.
Residents vote on whether or not to accept each applicant. You cover your stay by paying rent.
True Community Building
What stands out to me most about this location and the Oxford House in general is how the responsibilities given to residents aid in building a closer community. Residents work together to establish rules, accept applicants, and if need be vote disruptive individuals out, with each member getting a single vote on each issue. That means everyone has a voice and the same influence, and thus the same shared responsibilities.
Stay as Long as You Need
There’s no time limit to your stay here, which I think is great for those who are unsure about what their next step in treatment or sobriety should be. Whether you’re looking for a quick transitional stay or something long term, you’ll have a place here as long as you pay your portion expenses and abide by the agreed upon house rules.
