About Oxford House Red River
Red River of Oxford House is a men's-only home located in Alexandria, Louisiana. The organization provides a community-based approach to addiction recovery. The homes are self-run and self-supported for individuals recovering from a substance use disorder. Most people move in, if approved, after a 28-day rehabilitation program or a five to 10 day detoxification program.
What stood out to me is that you can use their vacancy locator to find a house near you that has an opening. You will be able to reach out to the point of contact of the house and schedule an interview. During your interview, you will have the opportunity to speak with the other house members and ask questions. This way, you will be able to determine if the house is a good fit for you.
The house members will vote on whether or not to allow you into the house. Everyone receives one vote, no matter how long they have been residing at the home. Once accepted, to move in, you will need to pay a fee that is nonrefundable.
All house costs are split equally. Therefore, everyone pays the same amount for rent, utilities and basic house staples. You can stay as long as you would like as long as you pay your share of expenses, are not disruptive and do not use any drugs or alcohol. The use of drugs and/or alcohol will have you immediately expelled. Most people stay an average of one year, while others have lived at the house for three years.
Since the house is democratically self-run, the residents elect house members as officers to serve six-month terms. Also, house members determine how they want to run their household.
