About Outback Therapeutic Expeditions
Outback Therapeutic Expeditions was a NATSAP-accredited wilderness therapy program based in Lehi, Utah. They served adolescents ages 13 to 17 through extended therapeutic expeditions in remote wilderness areas.
They may have also assisted individuals who were recovering from substance use disorder. The facility is now closed.
Utah Teen Wilderness Therapy
Outback’s treatment combined expedition-based experiences with psychotherapy and skills work. Teens participated in group processes, individual sessions, and structured programming intended to build coping skills, responsibility, and healthier decision-making.
I like that the program addressed concerns such as defiance, emotional outbursts, depression and anxiety. They also addressed identity development, trauma and PTSD and challenges like electronics or video game addiction.
Family Support and Psychoeducation
Outback included family involvement through family therapy, psychoeducation and clinical support designed to strengthen communication and alignment at home. Alongside therapy, I noticed the program also integrated education services and life skills to support broader functioning.
Outback operated in person through wilderness expeditions in Utah wilderness regions between the Sheeprock and Simpson Mountain Ranges, with an administrative address in Lehi, Utah.
The program accepted self-pay, and publicly available information did not clearly confirm insurance coverage.

Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) is an integrative, community-based care strategy designed to address the needs of persons with severe and/or complex mental illness or behavioral disorders. ACT is typically provided by a multidisciplinary team of medical and mental health care providers, social workers, therapists, and other specialists, including addiction recovery professionals. These services are frequently provided in the home and community to clients in crisis, those who are clinically unstable, and those who are unable or unwilling to travel to a hospital or clinic for in-person treatment.
Levels of Care
If you meet the criteria for both substance abuse disorder and a mental health disorder, this is called dual diagnosis. For the best recovery outcomes, you need dual diagnosis treatment in Utah. This type of treatment involves specialists in both fields, to address all your recovery needs.
Depending on the program, inpatient rehab in Utah can last from four to 12 weeks. It involves living at the facility under 24/7 supervision. Typical treatment methods include individual, group, and recreational therapy as well as medication.
