In a quiet suburban corner of Savannah, Georgia, adult men can get help with faith based addiction treatment through the Old Savannah City Mission. Since 1997, the mission has also provided hot meals, food, life skills classes, a health clinic and career training for all adults and their families.
Three Options to Change Your Life in Savannah
Men who are interested in substance use recovery have three options at the City Mission. Clean Start is a program that lasts one month and allows you to understand the longer treatment program and decide if you’re ready to commit one year to overcoming addiction. Clean Start clients attend nightly chapel services, classes and group sessions along with work assignments.
The Fresh Start program is the next step in the process. This process lasts one year and addresses the whole person using an approach called relational life recovery. Participants also have educational requirements and job training. Fresh Start also includes Christian discipleship classes, counseling and computer classes.
The final step of treatment at the City Mission is known as Life Start. Once you finish the year of treatment and education, you can apply for this program which equips you to live independently. This process lasts up to six months and includes intensive career counseling and help securing permanent housing.
Services Supporting Those in Need and in Recovery
The regular services of the City Mission can also help those in recovery and others who are struggling. If you don’t want to do Life Start, for example, you can still take life skills classes to help you with budgeting, goal setting and cooking skills. Career training provides participants with resumes, interview skills, help searching for jobs, and job skills training.
For those who need help with basic needs, the City Mission has hot meals, clean clothing, showers and overnight shelter. They also provide weekly boxes with eight meals in them to help lower income families eat well.
