OhioMHAS Recovery Services is operated by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction and provides substance use disorder treatment programming for incarcerated individuals across Ohio's correctional institutions with central offices located in Columbus.
The program offers a full continuum of care including therapeutic communities, intensive outpatient programming, medication assisted treatment, and recovery housing units.
Recovery Services was created to address the opioid epidemic and other addictions affecting those in custody delivering evidence based treatment and reentry support which we know helps sustain recovery beyond incarceration.
Substance Use Disorder Treatment in Correctional Settings
Recovery Services provides specialized alcohol and drug treatment within Ohio's prison system with every facility offering screening and assessment for substance use disorders. Following classification clients can access residential treatment programs, intensive outpatient services, and medication assisted treatment for opioid use disorder.
Therapeutic community programs use a highly structured group based model in a residential setting while intensive outpatient programming includes group counseling and evidence based treatment services. Recovery housing units offer a structured sober living environment with peer support and a recovery focused culture.
Reentry and Community Recovery Support
Recovery Services emphasizes continuity of care through reentry planning and community linkage. Clients leaving custody receive community referrals, peer recovery support, and access to naloxone kits. The program works with community partners to connect clients to ongoing treatment, recovery housing, and support services upon release.
