About Odyssey House
Odyssey House is a long term residential treatment program in the Bronx, New York specializing in substance use disorder treatment for women with children. The program provides transitional housing in furnished, two bedroom apartments with 24 hour supervision while delivering comprehensive addiction treatment including individual, group and family therapy.
As the nation's first residential treatment program allowing parents to keep their children with them during recovery, this facility has been keeping families together since 1973.
Treatment for Women and Children
The Family Re-Entry Program offers long term residential care ranging from 4 to 12 weeks, with many clients staying 3 to 6 months. Women receive evidence based treatment including cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing and trauma related counseling while living in independent apartments with their children.
Treatment addresses both addiction and family wellness through parenting skills training, relapse prevention planning and anger management counseling. I think it's beneficial to note that the program also provides medication assisted treatment options including oral naltrexone. They also accept clients already prescribed opioid medications elsewhere, ensuring continuity of care throughout recovery.
Integrated Childcare Services
I believe what sets this program apart is its fully licensed onsite daycare and early head start preschool program, certified by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. While mothers engage in treatment, children receive quality early education and care in a safe, nurturing environment and eliminate the trauma of family separation during recovery.
Start with Family Centered Recovery
The Family Re-Entry Community Residence serves families throughout metro New York from its Clinton Avenue location in the Bronx, providing in person residential treatment. The program brings over 50 years of experience in substance abuse and mental health treatment.
The facility accepts Medicaid and private insurance plans, offers sliding scale fees based on income and ensures financial constraints do not prevent access to care.
