About Nugens Ranch
Nugens Ranch, located in Wasilla, Alaska, is the home of Alaska Addiction Rehabilitation Services, Inc. (AARS). The ranch also sells vegetables, flowers, and sometimes livestock raised on the ranch to the public to provide money for the treatment program. AARS offers residential treatment for substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health disorders.
The AARS program accepts Medicaid coverage. They can occasionally take private plans as well. You can talk to them directly about your financial situation.
Produce and Products on 116 Acres
The ranch sells a variety of products in the Wasilla area. I like that money from the program goes into the treatment program, and the work is done by program participants as part of the work therapy process.
You can find their produce at their roadside stand on the corner of Point Mackenzie and Holstein, as well as at Palmer’s Friday Fling and Wasilla Market. They also sell eggs at Pet Zoo.
Nugens Ranch has branded products as well, including hoodies and mugs. As with the produce, the proceeds go to support the treatment program.
Residential Treatment at AARS
The residential treatment program at the ranch serves adult men and women, but they are housed on different parts of the property. The program includes individual and group therapy as well as work therapy, working with the animals and produce. I appreciate that the program also has time for study, meditation, reflection and learning.
There’s recreational therapy as well as nutrition education and satisfying meals. The facility has an indoor gym area as well as pickleball, basketball and volleyball courts.
Amenities
Rehabs that offer mountain views provide beautiful spaces for clients to explore, de-stress, and take part in outdoor or wilderness therapy programs. The mountain surroundings can be a great help to the recovery process, as sobriety may be better achieved while surrounded by a serene setting in nature.
There are many pathways to recovery and some journeys take a more labor-intensive approach, by attending a farm-based drug rehab. Farm life has many parallels with recovery: it requires constant tending, nurturing, and creating the conditions necessary to thrive. The benefits of a farm program include learning new skills, building a recovery community, peer support, and contributing to a greater ecosystem.
There’s nothing more distressing than leaving pets at home when leaving for for rehab. That’s why many addiction treatment programs are now pet friendly, allowing you to bring pets with you while attending a residential drug rehab program. These tailored addiction treatment programs provide a private room that has space to comfortably support you and your beloved furry companion.

Contact with therapy animals may reduce stress, enhance mood, decrease depression and anxiety, and increase clients’ self-esteem and sense of wellbeing.
