About Northumberland County Behavioral Health Intellectual and Developmental Services
Northumberland County Behavioral Health Intellectual and Developmental Services offers behavioral health, intellectual, developmental and substance use treatment services. The facility is on North Center Street in Sunbury, Pennsylvania. This is a state mandated program operating under the Northumberland County Board of Commissioners. I like that some of the programs are free regardless of insurance status or income. Some of the programs accept Medicaid.
Crisis and Dual Diagnosis Care
Northumberland County’s drug and alcohol treatment is a program that links residents to resources and helps them through early recovery. Staff takes care of the most urgent needs first, such as detoxification, prenatal and perinatal care and psychiatric services. If you’re not in crisis, you’ll start with a scheduled appointment to determine the appropriate level of care. Because substance use is often accompanied by co-occurring mental health disorders, staff work to address both problems simultaneously.
Free Early Intervention Services
Their early intervention services are for families with children from birth to five years old who are experiencing developmental delays. One of the great things I noticed about this program is that many of the services are offered in locations where families are having the most difficulty. For instance, they can help in daycare, at home during mealtimes or with grocery shopping. They bring families and kids together for activities that include singing, moving, touching, feeling and getting messy. To be eligible your child must be under five years old, have developmental delays and live in Northumberland County.
Child and Adolescent Service System Program
Children and their families can receive behavioral health services through the Child and Adolescent Service System. Services may include county drug and alcohol services, children and youth services, juvenile court services, school district services and wraparound services. Children begin with an assessment, and then referrals are made to get the children and families the most appropriate care.
Outpatient Psychiatric Clinic
Northumberland County services also include a licensed outpatient psychiatric clinic. This Northumberland County Counseling Services (NCCS) clinic treats adults with serious mental illness as well as children and families. Counselors specialize in trauma therapy and structured family therapy.
