About NorthStar Transitions

Northstar Transitions is located in Boulder, Colorado. Men and women are able to receive a continuum of care for substance misuse or co-occurring conditions. They do accept insurance including Tricare.

Once you call and they verify insurance, you will undergo a pre-admissions assessment. The reason for this assessment is so that staff can have a better understanding of your substance use history, mental health, and your clinical needs. After that, your assessment will be reviewed to determine if the program will be beneficial for you. The staff will call you to create your individual treatment plan. Once you and the staff agree on the course of treatment, then you will be able to schedule your intake appointment. I like that all these steps are taken to make sure everyone is on the same page.

Their day treatment provides you with structure and intense care. You’ll attend individual and group therapy for about 1-4 weeks. It is required to attend treatment five days per week which equals to about 30 hours per week.

The intensive outpatient program provides a little more flexibility. This is usually where you begin integrating back into school and/or work. You attend therapy three times per week for three hours per session. This will usually be for about 6-12 weeks.

A step down from those programs is their outpatient treatment. You see your therapist and attend group sessions on an as needed basis. You attend this program once you are either secured in your recovery or are working on recovery maintenance.
