Free Opioid Rehab Funded in Bamberg County To Treat Addiction

Residents of Bamberg County, South Carolina will soon have access to free rehab services after receiving federal funding through the South Carolina Opioid Recovery Fund (SCORF).

Local leaders hope that these dollars will go a long way to lower drug-related deaths from opioid overdoses.

South Carolinians are no strangers to the impact of opioid addiction. Between September 2024 and September 2025, the CDC reported 1,318 drug overdose deaths in the Palmetto State.

During the prior 12 months, another 1,639 South Carolinians lost their lives to drug overdose, most of them opioid related.

No-Cost Drug & Alcohol Rehab Options

For those experiencing opioid use disorders in Bamberg County, these funds can be life-changing. The grant will make treatment services available for free, reducing financial barriers for residents who may not have insurance coverage.

Evidence-based, no-cost treatment options will include:

  • Medication-assisted treatment: FDA-approved medications for opioid use disorder
  • Medical monitoring: Crucial clinical supervision
  • Behavioral health support: Critical assistance with mental health and addiction challenges

Local leadership acknowledges the importance of education regarding opioid addiction and treatment options. They are currently in the “education phase” to let residents of Bamberg County know about services that will be available.

Enhanced Public Health and Overdose Response Services

Beyond free and specialized treatment services, the grant funding will also improve services at the Bamberg County Coroner’s Office. The office will receive advanced toxicology equipment to enable faster drug testing.

Officials hope that these improvements will speed up the process of identifying drugs in suspected overdose cases.

When Free Rehab Services Begin in 2026

Leaders in Bamberg County plan to work with the Low Country Health Care System to offer free rehab treatment through Padgett Family Practice and Bamberg Specialty Services.

They plan to roll these services, along with the enhanced testing at the coroner’s office, in phases throughout 2026.

Bamberg leadership is optimistic about the impact of this new funding. Public Information Officer Alisha Moore noted to News Channel 6, “One death is one too many, especially from opioid addiction.

But, that’s something that we can work together to alleviate from our community altogether.”
