About Newport Academy Outpatient

Newport Academy Outpatient is a Joint Commission accredited teen mental health and substance use treatment center serving young adults ages 12 to 18 years in Rockville, Maryland. The program offers partial hospitalization program (PHP), intensive outpatient program (IOP), traditional outpatient and virtual IOP services for teens struggling with depression, anxiety, eating disorders, trauma, self-harm and co-occurring substance use disorders.

Newport Academy provides trauma focused, evidence based care that addresses the root causes of behavioral health challenges while helping teens build sustainable coping skills and resilience.

Trauma-Informed Mental Health Treatment for Teens

I noticed that Newport Academy specializes in healing underlying attachment trauma through evidence based modalities tailored to each teen's needs. Treatment includes EMDR, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and attachment based family therapy, alongside experiential therapies like art, music, movement, yoga and outdoor adventure therapy.

Teens attend structured programming five days a week while living at home, with individual therapy, group therapy and family sessions addressing both immediate symptoms and deeper emotional wounds. PHP programming integrates accredited academic support with therapeutic care, helping teens stay on track educationally while receiving intensive treatment.

Family-Centered Healing and Parent Support

Newport Academy views parents as essential partners in teen recovery and ongoing parent support groups. This family systems approach strengthens parent child connections and equips families with tools to support lasting healing beyond the program.

Located two blocks from the Twinbrook Metro in Rockville, Newport Academy offers in person and telehealth services throughout the Washington DC metro area and Montgomery County. I was impressed to see that the center holds Gold Seal accreditation from The Joint Commission and is LegitScript certified.

Newport Academy accepts most major insurance providers, including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Kaiser Permanente and TRICARE, with 98% of their clients using insurance coverage.
