About New Oakland Family Centers Southgate Center
New Oakland Family Centers’ Southgate Center in Michigan, specializes in the treatment of mental health and behavioral including substance abuse. Care is available to kids, teens, and adults with a DSM diagnosis. The facility accepts most private insurance plans, as well as Medicare and Medicaid.
While their intensive outpatient program isn’t an appropriate service for those with primary substance abuse issues, it can be effective for those with a primary mental health diagnosis and a secondary substance abuse disorder.
Meanwhile, their outpatient services are available by appointment Monday through Friday from 8am until 5pm. Walk-ins are welcome from 8am until 3pm. The center receives referrals for outpatient services from various inpatient providers, school systems, primary care providers, families, social services, and self-referrals.
Outpatient services include individual, group, family, and couples therapy. Therapy types available include cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, psychoeducation, and trauma-informed methods. Psychiatric and trauma evaluations and psychological testing are provided to assess which types of therapy will work best on a case-by-case basis.
Crisis screening, psychological assessments, case management, medication reviews, and management services are also available. Referrals can be made for those in need of further or more intensive care.
Transition and discharge planning is set up for clients at the end of the program to support them as they transition back to sober living post-recovery. This ensures a more sustainable and long-term recovery.
In terms of what former clients have to say, reviews are mixed but skew fairly negative. Many complain that the face-to-face program is very poor. Communication is described by some as being poor, and others criticize their partial hospitalization program. Allegedly, their counselor turnover is also quite high. I would highly recommend anyone considering treatment here do their own thorough research before committing to this center’s care.
