About Santa Barbara Newhouse II
Just minutes away from the Golden Coast in suburban Santa Barbara, California, is the New House 2 recovery home. This is a nondescript sober living home that helps support men aged 18 and over who are ready to continue on to the next stage in the recovery process. While medical services aren’t offered through this organization, many men continue with counseling or outside outpatient services.
There are structured fees for living in one of the three sober houses operated by New House. However, men are rarely denied treatment because they're unable to pay the full cost in advance. Residents must be ambulatory and cannot have severe mental health disorders.
I appreciate their efforts to help make sober living affordable. Depending on the financial standing, scholarships might be available to you to help with the cost of living. There are also short term scholarships offered if you are committed to treatment but don't have the financial means to start. The team here will work with you to ensure there's a financial plan in place for you.
Many of the men who live here will stay anywhere from 6-12 months. The programs are heavily rooted in the 12 Steps here and all staff members are individuals in various stages of the recovery process.
If you have stayed here for more than six months, you'll be eligible to move into their Grad House where you'll find more responsibilities and privileges.
I really appreciate this New House’s approach because it's designed to help you succeed. I find their residential themes to be relaxing and welcoming, and you really get that home like feel. They have Spanish speaking staff and offer three meals each day.
I also appreciate how residents are required to take ownership of regular house duties, but it's not something that residents feel burdened by. Instead, many past residents have shared they felt empowered and motivated as they started this new chapter in their lives.
Of course, its location, just minutes away from the beach and close to various shopping centers and places of employment, is also notable to me. You are set up for success in all aspects of your life because of the access to their resources.

Unlike outpatient drug rehab, clients receiving inpatient rehab in California reside at the facility for the duration of the program. The length of stay may range from two weeks to 18 months or more, depending on the client's needs and the program’s design.
When you have a co-occurring disorder, it is essential to treat both your addiction and the mental health disorder. California dual diagnosis treatment provides this type of multidisciplinary approach, for improved recovery outcomes.
