About New Horizon Recovery Center
New Horizon Recovery Center was an open to the public thrift store located in Loganville, Georgia that was part of the Teen Challenge Southwest Christian network designed to assist adolescents struggling with addiction and behavioral health challenges. Although the Loganville location is closed, Teen Challenge has a large network of facilities across the southeast which includes Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Kentucky, New Mexico, Alabama and South Carolina.
A Faith Based Approach to Behavioral Health
Teen Challenge is a Christian based treatment program that heavily relies on biblical teachings as a part of the recovery process. I appreciate that treatment is separated by gender and age with rehabs provided for men and women and boarding schools for teen boys and girls. Adult programs last for a year and can include vocational teaching while the teen programs are immersive boarding schools geared toward youth ages 12 to 17.
Non Medical Recovery
Teen Challenge touts its success rates and massive network, but I noticed that the facilities do not provide medical support for addiction. Instead, moral guidance and biblical principles are prioritized.
Payment for Adult and Teen Challenge
Donations cover operational costs. However, there’s an induction fee to the program, and regular tuition fees are charged once participants join work programs.
