About Myrtue Medical Center
Myrtue Medical Center has been around for 70+ years and recently expanded its behavioral health offerings in 2025 with a branch called the Myrtue Mental Health Center. However, the main medical center is still based in Harlan, Iowa.
Harlan is the county seat of Shelby County with a population of roughly 5,000. For clients in recovery who are mobile, this hub features a historic downtown, 422 acre Prairie Rose State Park and a strong community atmosphere.

The new mental health branch offers several programs, beginning with substance abuse services that include counseling, support groups and medication-assisted treatment (MAT). They also provide evaluations to meet court mandates and those of the Department of Transportation. Therapy services are offered in individual, family and group settings to clients of all ages.
