About Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center

New York City is home to the Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center, where youth and young adults ages 10 to 26 can get medical care as well as mental health and addiction treatment. Services are available in both English and Spanish.

They accept Medicaid and most other insurance plans for medical care, and their mental health, health education and family planning services are free.

Outpatient Counseling and Treatment for Teens

Services available at the Mount Sinai Adolescent Center include assessments and evaluations, individual and family therapy, and therapeutic groups. They can address mental health issues, substance use, eating disorders, domestic violence and sexual assault and a variety of other issues.

I like that they have art therapy as a way for patients to express themselves when talk therapy is challenging. That can help people get emotions out in a unique and safe way, which is key for dealing with trauma and the roots of substance use disorder.

The center can also provide psychiatric medication and medication management for mental health.

School Based Services in New York City

Another thing that caught my attention about the Center is the way they meet teens where they are by providing in school health centers.

These centers provide both medical and mental health care, including addressing addiction. Youth who get school based services can also attend the clinic on East 94th St. For young people who struggle to make time for appointments or don’t have transportation, the on site school clinics can be a significant support.
