About Minneapolis VA Health Care System Maplewood VA Clinic
If you’re a veteran struggling with addictive behaviors or substance use disorder, the Maplewood VA Clinic in Minnesota has various behavioral health services you can access on an outpatient (OP) basis. You’ll need a referral for an appointment, but like all VA sites, same day help is available at Maplewood if you need it.
To improve your chances of a successful recovery, your treatment will be personalized to your unique situation, as well as your experiences in the military that may contribute to your substance use, like PTSD and difficulty adjusting to civilian life.
Your treatment plan will contain a combination of individual, family, and couples counseling, addiction education, readjustment counseling, and job support. You might also receive medications and other psychotherapy services to help manage additional mental health symptoms, like panic attacks or low mood. If you need more support for your substance use disorder, you may be referred for treatment in one of the VA’s residential treatment facilities.
Virtual appointments and online support are available, too, if you can’t attend the Maplewood clinic in person. The VA’s telehealth service can connect you to a mental health specialist from wherever you are, while smartphone apps and their Virtual Training Program offer tips to coping with everyday stressors.
