About JWCH Mini House

The JWCH Institute works to improve the health and wellbeing of underserved people in the Los Angeles area by coordinating care, education and support services. The Mini House program on 52nd Street is a home for low-income pregnant and postpartum women with substance use disorders (SUD).

This is suitable for LA County residents eligible for Medi-Cal, General Relief, or Cal-WORKs benefits. Private paying clients are also accepted. You won’t be turned down due to inability to pay.

The facility is near the I-110 freeway, which makes it easy to get to downtown LA and other parts of the city. Public transportation is available through bus lines and nearby Metro service. Residents benefit from 24/7 support from a team of friendly professionals in a structured setting. The best part is you can live here with your kids under five. This means you’ll receive therapy with your kids which can strengthen mother-to-child bonding.

However, the program offers many more benefits. Their trauma-focused care helps you process past traumatic events that fuel your substance misuse in a safe space. This creates a strong foundation to heal from such trauma and recover from SUD. The substance use therapy group includes relapse prevention, anger management, Seeking Safety and Helping Women recovery groups. You’ll also attend substance use education sessions and art therapy.

Yoga and mindfulness classes as well as 12 step meetings like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous are all vital components of the program. You’ll receive medication assisted treatment if you’re dealing with opioid dependence. This technique uses counseling alongside FDA approved meds to help you manage withdrawal and support lasting recovery. The facility prescribes Suboxone for this purpose.

They also offer mental health care, nurturing parenting classes and peer support services. HIV testing and UA testing may be conducted occasionally. Case managers may refer you to their medical and dental care clinic if relevant to your recovery. They’ll also connect you to community resources like stable housing and job placement to support your lasting recovery efforts.

Another big plus is that they extend their services to your support systems such as family, friends and even dads. This includes therapy for kids not living onsite, couple and co-parenting counseling and onsite family therapy. They also provide referrals to SUD counseling, medical care, Al Anon meetings, immigration needs and many more.

By involving the father in the recovery process, they acknowledge the important role of the father in the life of the kids. This is especially helpful in pending DCFS cases. The program length of stay is 120 days and includes a six month follow up after treatment. Most residents continue their healing in the outpatient program or transitional living facility provided by JWCH Institute.
