About Mercy Family Center Metairie

The Mercy Family Center is a community based treatment center located in Metairie, Louisiana. They specialize in providing treatment and healing to children, adults, veterans, and families who are struggling with co-occurring and substance abuse disorders.

The Mercy Center was established in 1986 but have almost 200 years of history. They were founded by Sisters of Mercy in Dublin, Ireland, before it expanded in the United States. Due to seeing families struggling with the impact of poverty, their goals were to help, support, encourage, and educate women and children. Since then, they have continued to expand and grow to continue assisting vulnerable populations and assist in improving their quality of life.

They are located in one of the first New Orleans suburbs. The local area has parks, a bowling alley, laser tag, luxury spas, fine dining, art galleries, coffee shops, and churches. Since it’s such a family friendly atmosphere, during your time off, you can do family outings and explore all the activities you can bond over or spend an afternoon prioritizing self-care by getting a massage at one of their many spas.

What’s so unique about their Substance Use Recovery Program (SURP) is the flexibility they provide you with because it’s virtual. This removes the concern of being able to receive treatment due to transportation challenges and allows you to heal and focus on your recovery in the comfort of your own home. This includes having access and support from a social worker, psychiatrist, and trained medical staff who can provide you with medication assisted treatment (MAT) to alleviate the immediate symptoms caused by chemical dependency.

Prioritizing your recovery comes first because it impacts your livelihood. However, if your child is having difficulty concerning their mental health, it’s understandable to worry and be unsure of what is going on or how to help. To better assist you, they provide pediatric psychological testing for your child along with personalized treatment planning.

Their psychotherapy services under Project Fleur-de-lis for children and adolescents includes play therapy, family therapy, and interpersonal therapy to address trauma. What’s so unique and sticks out to me the most is their adolescents group therapy. This gives your child a chance to interact with their peers providing less emotional influence of feeling like an outsider or even feeling like they are alone on this journey.
