About Men and Women for Human Excellence
Men and Women for Human Excellence (MWFHE) has two locations. One is in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the other is in Decatur, Georgia. In Decatur, MWFHE provides substance abuse treatment, transitional housing and emergency shelter. They have achieved the distinction of being CARF accredited.
Outpatient Recovery Treatment in Decatur, Georgia
To me, it’s important that people in recovery are involved in their own recovery process. MWFHE encourages clients to be involved at every step of the way, from screening to transitioning out of the program and developing their continuing care plan.
They offer both (IOP) and outpatient (OP) services at this location. The IOP is the highest intensity outpatient program. Participants get an hour of individual therapy and three group sessions each lasting three hours every week. Their OP is less intensive with one individual session and two two-hour group sessions weekly.
Many clients meet key criteria for a mental health diagnosis during the screening process. MWFHE has mental health professionals who can provide assessments. I like that they also offer gendered housing units for both men and women when necessary.
Addiction Support Services in DeKalb County
I appreciate how many recovery support services MWFHE offers. Clients can choose the topics that are relevant to their needs. For example, they run anger management training, women’s support groups, faith-based spirituality groups, domestic violence forums, Tai Chi and more.
Clients will also get access to life skills training and the chance to learn from peer specialists. These recovering peer supporters have lived experience of addiction and can provide hope and perspective to folks who are early in their recovery journey.
