About MCAS Cherry Point

Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point is in Havelock, North Carolina. The station offers outpatient and intensive outpatient programs (IOP) for personnel with substance use (SUD) and co-occurring mental health disorders. The program is for active duty military members with programs targeted for adults and young adults.

Evidence Based Prevention Courses

One of the aspects of this program I like is Prime for Life. This is a motivational intervention and prevention program that helps people make better choices instead of engaging in poor and high risk behaviors. High risk choices include such things as impaired driving, but the program discusses other high risk behaviors as well.

The program strives to change attitudes and behaviors about drinking and drug use. By changing poor behaviors, clients reduce their risk of drug and alcohol related problems throughout their lifetime. There is both prevention and intervention content.

Private Rehab Environment

The center offers outpatient and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs. The programs are tailored to address the unique challenges faced by military members. These challenges include stressors such as deployment and other military related issues.

I think people will like the comfortable treatment environment that provides personalized and confidential care. In addition to traditional psychotherapy, therapeutic activities are incorporated into the program. These include fitness opportunities, such as swimming, hiking, basketball and other activities that support your physical well being as you recover.

With the treatment program being on base, there are many programs and activities available to military members. But there are also many off base activities, including Atlantic Beach, where you can walk on the beach, take in the ocean view and enjoy other recreational activities.
