About Light of Life Rescue Mission
Located in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Light of Life Rescue Mission provides a full path of recovery. They started in 1952. Their center on Voeghtly is a street shelter. They begin by meeting the needs of homeless men, women and children and help them work toward long-term programming, aftercare and alumni services. They offer food, shelter and hope as well as emergency shelter, chapel services, meal ministry, showers, access to mental health services, and information about their long-term recovery programming.
I like that this organization is focused on providing wrap-around services. The majority of their clients face severe mental health challenges, addiction, trauma or all three. Their dedicated staff work to understand each person’s needs and then provide tailored steps to address the root cause of their issues. Their outreach services happen through their food pantry, donation center and street outreach.
To begin their long-term programming, you’ll have a needs assessment to figure out what program is best for you. The goal of this program is to give you the ability to transform your life to become who you were meant to be. During the first year after you finish the program, you’ll stay in bi-weekly contact with your care team leader. Then after a year of aftercare, you’ll join hundreds of others as alumni and continue to get support from them as mentors.
