About LifeWorks NW

LifeWorks NW is a nonprofit behavioral health organization offering outpatient and intensive outpatient addiction treatment at its Northeast Portland location on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The MLK site provides substance use disorder programs, mental health services, and trauma informed care for youth ages 12 to 18, adults and older adults across the Portland metro area.

With over 60 years of experience, LifeWorks NW takes a whole health, culturally responsive approach that integrates addiction treatment with primary care and community support.

Outpatient Treatment Programs

LifeWorks NW offers customized outpatient and intensive outpatient substance use disorder programs for adults and young adults and adolescents. The organization uses evidence based approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing and the matrix model, with services ranging from individual counseling and group therapy to relapse prevention and family support.

I think it's important how treatment sessions combine clinical expertise with peer support specialists who bring lived experience in recovery. Clients work on identifying triggers, building coping skills and addressing underlying trauma or co-occurring mental health conditions through structured counseling and skills training that support long term sobriety.

Culturally Responsive Care

The MLK location houses the REAL program, a culturally focused outpatient service for African American youth ages 14 to 24 that integrates traditional addiction treatment with the principles of Kwanzaa.

I think it's important to note that LifeWorks NW also offers a state certified DUII program for clients referred through the criminal justice system, along with specialized support for pregnant and postpartum women and survivors of trauma and domestic violence.

Access and Getting Started

LifeWorks NW serves clients in person at the Northeast Portland MLK location and through telehealth in Multnomah, Clackamas and Washington counties. The site is wheelchair accessible with free parking and childcare services available.

The organization accepts Oregon Health Plan, Medicaid and Medicare, most major insurance plans and offers sliding scale fees based on income.
