About Life Changers Outreach Beckley

LifeChangers was a faith based residential program for men and women in Beckley, West Virginia. Unfortunately, the West Virginia location is closed, but LifeChangers has locations across the country. They use Christian principles and fellowship to help those living with substance use disorder find sobriety. This is a residential program managed by pastors and volunteers.

What I found so interesting about this location was that the West Virginia program is free. It was a full fledged program that lasted 12 months and was delivered at no cost. This opened the doors to anyone interested in faith based treatment regardless of income or insurance.

Bringing People Together in Fellowship

This facility hosts Apostolic Gatherings. These events bring together staff and clients from all Life Changers locations to hear the word of God and participate in fellowship. These are big events for those in treatment that help solidify their faith, but you’ll have to travel to get there.

While these events are about ministering the faith, I think they're also a great opportunity to meet others in recovery. Connecting with others in recovery helps sustain your recovery, and at Apostolic Gatherings you'll meet others sharing in both recovery and faith. It could help you build your support network.

Sharing with Your Community

The primary components of the West Virginia program were study and mentorship. Through classwork and worship you would have built character through accountability to encourage you to change negative behaviors. But in addition to these activities, you would have had the opportunity to go out into the community and witness to others with your lived experience.

This gave you the chance to bring others into the faith and help others who were hurting with substance abuse. It was encouraging, not to mention empowering, to know that you could serve as the catalyst for someone else's recovery.

Support for Young and Expecting Mothers

The Generation Hope program operates out of LifeChangers Pisgah Forest, North Carolina location. It’s far from Beckley, but I wanted to draw attention to it because it's specifically designed for pregnant women and young mothers who are seeking recovery or have recently completed rehab. In addition to its faith based program, Generation Hope provides skills training and parenting support.

The program also helps you find a job so you can support yourself and your child. The combination of living support and faith based care offers well rounded experience that supports many areas of your life.
