About Latin American Community Center

The Latin American Community Center in Wilmington, Delaware, offers a range of support services, including addiction treatment. They’ve served clients of all ages from infants to adults for over 50 years, initially helping Puerto Rican immigrants get a healthy start in a new country. Today, the center offers not only a substance use disorder prevention program, but also adult literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes as well as school-based programs for children and youth.

A Local Community Resource for Drug Recovery Advocacy

When I look at addiction treatment services, I like seeing an organization that operates as a hub for other resources. ConeXiones is where individuals and families come to learn what’s available for drug treatment in the Wilmington area. It’s a bridge to other resources, helping clients understand existing services and how to access them, including referrals to treatment programs.

Addiction Prevention in Wilmington

Although the center doesn’t offer treatment programs in house, clients can participate in Prevention Promoters, a drug prevention education program for adults 18 and older. I’m impressed with how involved this program is in the community, offering street outreach, free drug education and drug and alcohol-free events. Training is offered if you’re interested in becoming a leader in the community.

The Latin American Community Center is located in one of the most accessible areas of Wilmington, and not just because services are offered in Spanish as well as English. It’s close to public transportation and some great restaurants, like the Dominican Cafe or Frank’s Deli.
