About Kpep Muskegon County
KPEP has been helping Michiganders who need more structure than regular probation after prison since 1980. They run residential and outpatient care as a community based alternative to incarceration. These programs help men and women take personal responsibility for their lives.
The East Barney Avenue location in Muskegon provides residential care, work release and transitional housing. They also offer a Residential Sexual Abuse Prevention Program (RSAPP). The standard residential care assists you in becoming an independent and productive member of society. It involves at least 60 hours a week of structured activities that last between 90 to 150 days, depending on your progress.
Your case manager will help you identify needs and create a personalized care plan based on your assessed needs. They’ll monitor and evaluate progress as necessary. You’ll receive substance use disorder (SUD) assessment, treatment and workshop or educational support. This includes using cognitive behavioral therapy to guide you in making positive changes and better decisions.
You’ll attend employability classes and receive vocational training to prepare you for work when you reenter the community. They’ll even assist you in obtaining and maintaining employment. You’ll receive life skills education as well. This helps you learn how to communicate well, build healthy relationships and manage stress and anger. They also offer GED prep and testing to help you earn your diploma.
The program integrates 12 step practices. So expect to attend self help groups like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. They incorporate spiritual practices as well. This can be a great way to connect to a higher power and find purpose in your struggle and recovery. You’ll need to complete at least 60 hours of community service to finish the program if eligible.
Their transitional housing is a safe place to rebuild, find work and get back on your feet before reentering the community.
While their residential care includes sex offender treatment, the RSAPP is a highly structured intervention for such offenders. It combines strict supervision with cognitive behavioral therapy. The goal is to address the irrational beliefs and thinking patterns that led to this behavior and learn relapse prevention strategies.
You’ll attend a minimum of 25 hours of staff-led activities weekly. This includes group and individual sessions for sex offenders, substance abuse treatment and educational classes.
All KPEP programs are accredited by CARF. This may indicate a commitment to quality care.
