About Kolob Canyon Residential Treatment Center
Kolob Canyon in New Harmony, Utah, is an intensive treatment program for teens ages 14 through 17 with mental health or substance use challenges. This is a residential program that combines traditional therapies with experiential therapies in a small, homelike setting.
They only work with 16 teens at a time, giving each resident highly individualized attention and personalized care. While in treatment, residents can also continue academic work to stay on track with graduation or prepare for college.
Kolob Canyon accepts insurance through a third party.
True Healing for Teens in Utah
Their program uses a holistic approach to recovery focused on improving relationships and cultivating healthy social skills and behaviors.
The staff at Kolob Canyon use multiple therapeutic methods, such as adventure therapy and equine therapy, in combination with traditional talk therapy. On the surface, it may seem like these are drastically different approaches, but what makes this facility so special is that they're all used to focus on identifying and lessening the impact of trauma on young people.
Your teen may find more success in recovery when engaging in physical or expressive therapies alongside things like dialectical behavioral therapy or cognitive behavioral therapy. The combination gives them the chance to put new skills into practice alongside peers in a safe environment. Or, they may enjoy working with horses and overcoming obstacles in adventure therapy.
Catch Up or Get Ahead in Academics in New Harmony
Kolob Canyon offers year-round academics with certified teachers. Having school all year helps make up for missing credits. Teachers can create customized learning plans to help give students accommodations for an IEP or prepare for college. I like that the class sizes are small so that students get the support and attention they need to thrive. They can accommodate existing IEP or 504 plans.
Another aspect of their program I really like is the emphasis they put on parental involvement. Parents are always encouraged to be involved with a child's recovery. Where Kolob Canyon differs is that they have separate education programs to help parents develop the tools that will help them support their teen while in treatment and when they come home. These include their own assignments and access to seminars in person and online. It's a rounded approach that helps everyone involved prepare for long term recovery.
