About Jim Taliaferro Community Mental Health Center
Based in Lawton, Oklahoma, Jim Taliaferro Community Mental Health Center offers behavioral and mental health support services, including addiction treatment, to adults and families regardless of gender, race or background.
Various substance abuse programs and services are available here to meet the needs of different communities and demographics. The center understands that recovery is different for everyone and they want to provide all the resources and support they can to help meet those needs.
For example, Family Treatment Court, or FTC was created to reunite families that have been torn apart by substance abuse. It offers the possibility of treatment completion to restore stability. Their goal is to ultimately have children placed in the custody of Oklahoma’s Department of Human Services reunited with their families.
The center’s medications for opioid use disorder, or MOUD services, are offered statewide to individuals and families affected by addiction. Also known as medication-assisted treatment or MAT, this proven method has been shown to be incredibly effective at treating substance use disorders for long-term recovery, especially when employed in combination with counseling and therapy.
Specific outreach programs exist for this initiative, meaning vulnerable populations like teens, pre- and post-natal individuals, veterans, Native Americans and ex-convicts or those soon to be discharged from jail can get the treatment they need.
For Oklahomans who may have had their license suspended or revoked due to a DUI, services are also available here for individuals in need of intervention or assessment. This provides a fantastic opportunity for individuals to review their current and/or past behaviors particularly as they relate to driving. For individuals open to engaging with treatment, intervention levels vary. There is, however, the option of a 10-hour DUI school and residential treatment. This also involves relevant aftercare on completion of the program.
